Summer 2022 Courses and Packages

The past two years have taken its toll on high school education and college prep. College in 3-2-1 is now offering a series of workshops and boot camps to help students improve their English and writing skills to achieve better grades in high school English, prepare for the ACT/SAT English section or to hone their writing skills for the all-important college essays.

 

English and Writing Boot Camp – $335

In-Person at College in 3-2-1 in Clemmons, NC

For rising 10th-12th grade students

Instructor: Linsday Schneider, M.Ed. Secondary English Education

In small groups of 3-6, students will practice the grammar, syntax, and writing structures that are tested on the SAT/ACT and expected of students in Advanced Placement courses. Over the course of 5 hours, our sessions afford students the opportunity to learn from our instructor, practice in small groups, and review independently to strengthen their practical writing skills as they gain confidence in their English and writing abilities. These interactive sessions will include explicit instruction, interactive activities, and personal practice to allow students to improve the English skills tested on College Entrance Exams and in Advanced Placement Courses. This course is also recommended for students who want to strengthen their writing skills for college application essays.

Courses are Tuesday & Wednesday –  9:30 a.m. – 12 noon except where otherwise noted at College in 3-2-1 in Clemmons.

Personal Essay Kickstart Workshop – $95

In-person at College in 3-2-1 in Clemmons, NC

For rising 12th grade students

Instructor: Linsday Schneider, M.Ed. Secondary English Education

Alongside a small group of 3-6, students will participate in creative and reflective writing activities designed to kickstart the college essay process. Our sessions will help students understand the goal of college essays and outline their approach as they begin the writing process. Using our interactive and introspective writing workshop model, students will gain confidence in their own writing ability and narrative voice. Students can expect to leave this 90- minute session with 3 tangible essay topics and a plan to move forward in the college essay process.   

Courses are Thursdays –  10-11:30 a.m. except where otherwise noted at College in 3-2-1 in Clemmons.

August 25, 2022 – Time: 6:30-8 p.m.

 

Common App Essay Development Package – $550

In-person at the offices of College in 3-2-1 in Clemmons, NC or virtual via Zoom

For rising 12th grade students

Offered by Kathy de Jong or Lindsay Schneider (based on availability)

Through one-on-one sessions and our step-by-step process, students will develop a personal statement essay from idea to a polished submission-ready essay that captures the student’s authentic self. This package includes five coaching hours inclusive of in-person or virtual instruction sessions and essay review and feedback. All writing is done by the student in Google Docs to facilitate review and feedback. If a student should complete their Common App essay with service hours remaining, they may choose to apply the remaining time to a college’s supplemental essay or a scholarship essay.

We recommend starting the Common App personal statement during the summer. The process can take several weeks to get to a final version.

 

College Application 5- Hour Crash Course – $350

In-person and virtual options

For rising 12th grade students

Instructor: Kathy de Jong

This course is designed to build a student’s knowledge and confidence as they embark on the college application process. In small groups, the instructor will walk students through the process from building and prioritizing a college list to hitting submit on their final application through the Common App. Students will learn tips and strategies for building a cohesive personal story through their high school courses, activities, essays, and supplemental materials. We’ll dive into the how-to’s of writing stand-out essays, creating an activities resume to feature their accomplishments, and how social media can help and hurt you in the process. Students will receive handouts, tools, links, and instructions to support them during the application process. 

Bonus: sign up before June 30th and parents will receive access to a 1-hour video on searching for outside scholarships and how to make the process of scholarship applications more efficient!

Aug. 15-19 – 6-7 p.m. (Virtual via Zoom)
